Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president , and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and she was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
